Enchanting the word ‘litterbug’ more accurately than common, British artist Mark Oliver has make a chain of insect like creatures entirely out of useless trash. His works conduit the space among miniature sculpture and collage, frequently with clock hands for legs and spring for antennae, as implement flat paper like cutouts of Elvis and the Bible for wings and beetle like shells. The series, called ‘The Litter Bug’, is what he calls Urban Entomology: every insect has a tag display its creative name. Above just mimic the forms of insects, perhaps Oliver’s works could be looked at as mimicking their actions. Insects are the great recyclers of the world, breaking down plant and animal matter, and turning it into valuable organic material for the world to use again.
Previous to the days of e-books and practical documents, readers had to commonly pace into a real building to vacate amazing latest news from the library. Through the checkout method, the librarian stamped the owing date in the back of the book, parting a trail of ink stamps on the card as evidence of previous readers. Using those extremely similar date stamps and black ink, Berlin-based artist Federico Pietrella paints these unbelievably detailed, pointillist-like paintings, where numbers and ink merge together to form larger scenes. Formerly, Pietrella would finish a painting and comprise the date as a side note in the corner of the canvas. He was later inspired to actually use those date marks to build the entire composition of his paintings.
